Sally and Walter Wilkins, a retired couple, own a small cottage overlooking Hazy Lake in the picturesque Kawellyn Highlands. The two seniors enjoy gardening, puttering, reading and watching the sun set over the lake from their deck chairs.

Their neighbours, Amber and Elmer Etherington, attempt to drive off the Wilkins and take over their property by a series of petty acts over the years against them and their property. Sally and Walter ignore these harassments until their latest improvement project, a deck and privacy screen is termed non-compliant by municipal officials, in spite of their having issued a building permit for it. The Etheringtons are successful in bringing this about with their series of complaints of alleged infractions agains the Wilkins’ property. The Wilkins have had enough!
